What are basis points (BPS)?
A basis point is one hundredth of a percentage point. Basis points make small differences in rates easier to express without confusing percentage changes with percentage-point changes.
How to use this tool
Enter a percentage as a number: enter 2.5 for 2.5%. The calculator returns its decimal value (percentage ÷ 100), basis points (percentage × 100), and permille (percentage × 10).
Example
2.5% equals 0.025 as a decimal, 250 basis points, and 25 per thousand. A rate moving from 4% to 4.25% increases by 25 basis points.
Understanding your result
A 25-basis-point increase is not a 25% relative increase. This tool converts the entered rate; to convert a change, first subtract the old rate from the new rate.
