What does the startup equity calculator show?
Estimate a proportional share of company value, an ownership percentage, and the cost of exercising options using a simplified capitalization model.
How to use this tool
Ownership = options ÷ shares outstanding × 100. Gross proportional value = company value × options ÷ shares outstanding. Exercise cost = options × exercise price. Use a consistent share-count basis.
Example
10,000 options, 1,000,000 shares, a $10,000,000 company value, and a $1 exercise price give 1% ownership, $100,000 gross proportional value, and $10,000 exercise cost.
Understanding your result
The “options are worth” output is gross proportional equity value, not option fair value or take-home profit. It does not subtract exercise cost, taxes, dilution, or liquidation preferences, and private shares may not be sellable.
