How is average employee tenure calculated?
Average tenure is the mean length of service for the employee group you select. This tool returns it in both years and months.
How to use this tool
Average tenure = combined years of service ÷ employees. Add each included employee’s service length as of the same date, using fractions of a year for partial years.
Example
Ten employees with 35 combined years of service have average tenure of 3.5 years, or 42 months.
Understanding your result
Use a positive employee count and specify whether the group includes current staff, former staff, or both. A mean can hide large differences between recent hires and long-serving employees; it is not a turnover rate.
