What is revenue per employee (RPE)?
Revenue per employee compares business revenue with workforce size. It can help track changes in revenue productivity over time.
How to use this tool
RPE = total revenue ÷ number of employees. Use a positive headcount and state the period. Average full-time-equivalent headcount is often more comparable than a single end-of-period count.
Example
$2,000,000 in annual revenue divided by 20 employees gives annual RPE of $100,000.
Understanding your result
Industry, outsourcing, part-time staffing, and business maturity affect comparisons. RPE does not measure an individual employee’s contribution or the business’s profitability.
