How does the pool salt calculator work?
Estimate the pounds of salt required to raise salinity from a measured current concentration to a chosen target.
How to use this tool
Salt in pounds = US gallons × 8.345 × (target ppm − current ppm) ÷ 1,000,000. Enter pool volume in US gallons and salinity in parts per million. Select the target specified for your salt-chlorination equipment.
Example
For 10,000 gallons, increasing salinity from 2,500 to 3,000 ppm requires approximately 41.725 pounds of salt under this model.
Understanding your result
The calculation assumes a well-mixed, unchanged water volume and accurate measurements. A negative result means the current salinity is already above target; it is not an instruction to add salt. Follow the equipment’s dosing guidance and retest before adding more.
