What is average revenue per user (ARPU)?

ARPU measures revenue per active user over a defined period. It helps compare monetization across products or customer segments.

How to use this tool

ARPU = total revenue ÷ active users. Match the revenue period to the active-user window and use a positive user count. Decide whether your user definition includes free accounts before comparing results.

Example

$20,000 of monthly revenue from 1,000 monthly active users gives monthly ARPU of $20.

Understanding your result

ARPU is an average: a small group of high-spending users can raise it. Revenue per paying user is a different metric, and monthly ARPU should not be compared directly with annual ARPU.
