How to use the RICE prioritization framework
RICE scores initiatives using reach, impact, confidence, and effort. It makes the assumptions behind a prioritization discussion explicit.
How to use this tool
RICE score = reach × impact × (confidence percentage ÷ 100) ÷ effort. Estimate reach over one shared period, use a consistent impact scale, enter confidence from 0 to 100, and measure effort in the same unit, such as person-months.
Example
Reaching 1,000 users with impact 2, confidence 80%, and effort of two person-months gives a RICE score of 800.
Understanding your result
Effort must be positive. Scores are relative to your assumptions and do not override dependencies, required work, or strategic commitments. Avoid treating all four inputs as a generic 1–10 rating; they represent different quantities.
