How it works & examples
How does the character counter work?
Count characters, characters excluding whitespace, words, and nonempty lines as you type or paste text. It is useful for drafting text for forms, messages, or publishing systems with length limits.
How to use this tool
Paste your text into the box. The character count includes spaces and line breaks; the no-spaces count removes all whitespace. Words are separated by whitespace, and the displayed paragraph count counts nonempty newline-separated lines.
Example
“Hello world” has 11 characters, 10 without spaces, two words, and one nonempty line.
Understanding your result
Character totals use JavaScript string length, so some emoji and combined Unicode characters count as more than one unit. A platform may apply different counting rules. Visual line wrapping does not add a paragraph.
